Unlike other day trips to the Mekong Delta, this experience is designed for travelers who want to truly explore the Mekong by water. Beyond visiting local workshops and cycling through shady fruit gardens, the highlight of the day is a 3.5-hour motorboat cruise downstream from Cai Be to My Tho, following the river that has shaped the lives of local people for centuries. It’s the perfect mix of culture, nature, and river life.
Your guide and driver will pick you up early at your hotel for a 2.5-hour drive to Cai Be, with a short stop for refreshments along the way.
On arrival, stroll through a lively local market before boarding a boat to explore the canals and see daily life along the riverbanks. Stop at several cottage industries to watch how coconut candy, rice paper, and pop-rice are made—and taste them fresh. You may also try snake wine, a local specialty.
Cross to Tan Phong Island, where you’ll visit a tropical fruit garden, enjoy folk music, and take a peaceful hand-rowed sampan ride through shaded canals. At a local family home, enjoy a cooking demonstration, try preparing a traditional Vietnamese dish, and then sit down to a fresh homemade lunch. After lunch, either rest at the house or join a short cycling trip around the village.
In the afternoon, board a motorboat for the highlight of the day—a 3.5-hour cruise downstream on the Mekong River to My Tho, offering the best way to understand the rhythm of life along the water. Disembark in My Tho and drive 1.5 hours back to Ho Chi Minh City, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel. End of services.
