Long Tan is a small village – known for its rubber plantations, this quiet area became the site of one of the most significant battles fought by Australian and New Zealand soldiers during the Viet Nam War. This itinerary is designed especially for Australian and New Zealand veterans, their families, and anyone interested in the history of these battle sites. The focus is on remembrance, learning, and where possible, honoring reconciliation.
Your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel for a 2-hour drive to the Long Tan Cross, erected in 1969 by Australian veterans to commemorate the battle fought here in August 1966.
Continue on to the Horseshoe Base, once a major Australian stronghold, where you’ll gain an impression of the war’s impact on the landscape and local communities. Afterward, explore the Long Phuoc Tunnels, an extensive underground network that reveals the ingenious tactics used by Viet Cong fighters.
Following lunch at a local restaurant, visit Nui Dat (SAS Hill), another key Australian base during the war, before making the return journey to Ho Chi Minh City. You’ll be dropped back at your hotel or a central location in District 1 at your request. End of services.
